What's The Deal Music Video

As the director of "What's The Deal?," my vision was clear from the outset: to create a music video that not only honored the roots of Birmingham grime but also elevated the genre to new cinematic heights. It was a task that required planning, and a deep understanding of both the music and the city that inspired it.

The plan began with research, immersing myself in the sounds and sights of grime music from the early 2000s. As a fan of the music it wasn't so hard! I pored over iconic music videos, such as Skepta & JME dissecting their visual language and dissecting their narrative structures. But I didn't stop there. I set out to find the perfect locations to bring my vision to life. Networking proved to be invaluable in this regard, as I tapped into my connections with talents who knew the city like the back of their hand. Together, we sourced a studio (building included) of Birmingham, searching for hidden gems that would serve as the backdrop for our story.


I employed a range of techniques, from dynamic camera movements to intricate lighting setups, each designed to immerse the audience in the world of Birmingham grime.

Perhaps the most important aspect of my role as director was my ability to collaborate with the talented individuals who brought the music video to life. Every member of the team played a crucial role in shaping the final product. Together, we worked tirelessly to ensure that every frame was a testament to our collective passion for the music and the city that inspired it.

As the director, my ultimate goal was to create a music video that would leave a lasting impact – one that would not only entertain audiences but also inspire them to see Birmingham grime in a whole new light. And as the final scenes faded to black, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride in what we had accomplished together.
